Our journey began, predictably, as an artist's studio – Revolution Studios. This group went through several leaders and directions before settling on the idea of publishing comics rather than just creating them for others. These were the heady days of the early 90s, when comics were selling at historic highs. Their dream seemed almost easy to achieve. The new head of the studio, Dan Gottlieb attempted to make a breakout book, The Black Book, to showcase their vision. However, lack of funds and consistent talent doomed the project.
The group added members Thomas Grace, Hassan Godwin and found an editor in Jeffrey Neary and a publisher in Jim “Quinn” Quirindongo. Grace's concept, Die Teiger, was slated as the showpiece project. They charted a course that began with an anthology book, Fusion. They added Charles Bostic, a long-time designer and production pro to get the book made. Also, Alexander Glass, a veteran of the Valiant Comics editorial group signed on to edit and maintain continuity.
Over the next few years, they slowly put together the book but ran out of money before the final touches could be put on it. As the project moved forward, the industry changed. From record highs, comics sales slid into the lowest depths seen since the Fifties. By 1999, it looked as if comics wouldn't exist as a stand-alone industry. Investors were in short supply and the Dominion group ground to a halt with an almost finished project
Present Pending
Charles took the reins of the now-defunct Dominion. He was joined by Alexander Glass and Hassan Godwin of the old group and added new staff to rethink both the project and the total goals o the company. The new group had a new idea. Rather than compete with the monthly they decided to try something new. Graphic novels that were more than collections of magazine stories, but actual full complete stories that dealt with more than just people in tights. Also, they envisioned a new storage system, the N'Case format, to make the book even more appealing and different.
They are presently finishing the Fusion book, pulling in the original members as consultants. The new Dominion appeared at several conventions, generating interest with ashcans and samples of the N'Case Format.
Future Perfect
Dominion's vision moves forward into the future. The Dominion will soon be publishing 200-page graphic novels dealing with Fantasy and Science Fiction themes (as well as new thinking on the superhero front). Look for an fresh new urban fantasy Ravenous Redd , which will bring the world of witchcraft and monsters to that magical land of Brooklyn as well as the hard-edged sci-fi war tale Valkk. We'll also be adding shirts, posters and other brand items to our roster. We're adding talent by the day, joining with Amara Publishing, a decade-old comic house, and adding their ideas and business sense to our own. The future is ours – we're offering it to you for discount rates.
