Potential is the best I can say about I am King. Being that I only read six pages of the story I can tell you little about the actual tale, but the plot is an interesting twist to the usual loosely historically based science fiction serials.
A Pharaoh has been thrusted 1000 years into the modern world. There he is forced to confront his former trusted Vizier. His former ally has managed to become somewhat of an authority, but has an alternative plan of destruction, which begins during a party in the hallowed halls of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (which by the way has a kick ass Egyptian Exhibit).
As the former Vizier lets loose his maniacal plot of destruction on the party goers, the Pharaoh steps forward with his former protectors, who not even in death, he notes, will be separated from him. The Pharaoh’s Garb of ultra strong spirits comes full force at the Vizier’s force ending in a climatic battle concluded in the full 32-page issue.
The artwork is spectacular; bar none- this highly detailed black and white performance pulls one full force into the action. But in all the presented hard cored chaos expect to get lost while reading. The way the dialogue and narration are situated is very confusing, thus forcing me to read each page several times just so I could figure out how the story flowed.
Overall, I would like to read the whole issue just so I can feel more attached to the characters. I greatly encourage you if you are looking for something with a little color (the main characters are all Black) and a little twist on history, I am King is definitely worth the look.
